Dr. Houlihan Bio Pic

Caitlin Houlihan, DVM

Dr. Caitlin Houlihan grew up in northern Massachusetts before pursuing her undergraduate degree in Biology at Saint Micheal’s College in Vermont. She then attended the University of Pennsylvania for her veterinary degree and completed a veterinary internship in Emergency Medicine after graduation.

Like many veterinarians, Dr. Houlihan was captivated by animals from a young age. She grew up with dogs, cats, and small mammals (guinea pigs, rodents, you name it!) and spent her free time volunteering in therapeutic horseback riding lessons and at wildlife rehabilitation centers. She knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when her own childhood cat grew sick from heart disease; her family veterinarian helped her through the overwhelming treatment and grieving process. Dr. Houlihan is grateful she gets to work with animals and the people who love them every day.

In her time outside the office, Dr. Houlihan enjoys the outdoors in all seasons – skiing, hiking, and fly fishing. She lives with her husband, August, and their single-child feline, Percy. “Since we rescued him, he has fully given up the outdoors. We tried to harness train him, but he prefers to be a lazy fluffy couch potato.” She hopes to add a puppy to the family soon but doesn’t think Percy will be too thrilled.

Dr. Houlihan is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and is certified as a fear-free practitioner. Her professional interests include ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, and client education.
